To A Lover No Longer

by Alivia Begin

i tell you this with trepidation,
with each syllable tugging at my throat,
but crumbling
into empty air
and i can feel your eyes
like axes
breaking into me.

when your hand carries mine
with the warmth of another,
i feel the winter
behind my ribcage,
the frost finding my
fingertips-
i do not miss your guilty skin.

i am telling you that
i do not love you
anymore
and you cannot force me to,not even with your bitten
lips still burning
my skin.
