by Sarah Allen

All you can taste is blood.
It hurts but you haven’t brushed your teeth in days,
And fuck, that’s gross.
The bristles dig into your gums but you can’t feel them anymore,
The toothpaste used to hurt but now you can’t feel that either
And all you can taste is blood
You spit into the sink and with the sight of the red tinted discharge it hits you
How much you bleed to make other people happy
You check in the mirror to see if your teeth are whiter,
If you’re better yet
All you can see is the blood seeping out of your gums and you smile
Thinking you look good like that
All you can taste is blood
